Director David Cronenberg full name was David Paul Cronenberg. He is a Canadian film director, screenwriter & producer. He has made a significant impact on the film industry with his unique brand of filmmaking. He was born in Toronto, Canada in 15th March 1943. He began his career making short films before transitioning to feature-length films in the 1970s. There are so many popular movie directors in the world.
Cronenberg is known for his distinctive style of filmmaking. He chooses themes of body horror, technology, and the human condition. His early films, such as “Shivers” (1975) and “Rabid” (1977) are low-budget horror films dealt with of sexuality and technology. These films established Cronenberg as a filmmaker.
Cronenberg also directed dramas, gangster films, and psychological thrillers. He was raised in a middle-class progressive Jewish family. His father was born in Toronto and all of his Jewish grandparents were from Lithuania.
The David Cronenberg household was full of a wide variety of books. Cronenberg’s father had tried to introduce him to art films like “The Seventh Seal”. However at that time Cronenberg showed more interest in western and pirate films. He had a particular affinity for films featuring Burt Lancaster.
Cronenberg began his life by enjoying science fiction magazines like The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Galaxy and Astounding. He encountered authors who proved influential on his own work, including Ray Bradbury etc.

He felt that superhero films were artistically limited. He also read horror comics published by EC. But they he described as scary, bizarre, violent and nasty.
Cronenberg’s career included avant-garde, horror, science fiction, and thriller films. Some of these early films were Un Chien Andalou, Vampyr, War of the Worlds, Freaks, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Alphaville, Performance and Duel etc.
David Cronenberg went on to say that Bambi was the first important film he ever saw. He cited the moment when Bambi’s mother died as particularly weakest moment.
Cronenberg’s films have been polarized by critics and audiences alike. He earned critical acclaim while also sparking controversy for their portrayal of bloodshed and violence. The Village Voice news paper called him the most audacious and challenging narrative director in the English-speaking world.
David Cronenberg’s films have won numerous awards, including the Special Jury Prize for Crash at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival.
Cronenberg collaborated on several films with Viggo Mortensen from the 2000s to the 2020s. These are including A History of Violence in 2005, Eastern Promises in 2007, A Dangerous Method in 2011, and Crimes of the Future in 2022.
