They can inject up to 400 mg of venom into a human in a single bite. Although they can be very dangerous, the venom from a coastal taipan bite is relatively mild, with most symptoms occurring within 15 to 30 minutes.

They are mostly active in the morning but are sometimes seen in the evening especially in cooler weather.
