S. P. Balasubrahmanyam full name was Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam. He was born in 4th June 1946 and was died in 25th September 2020. He was born in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, in the country of India and brought up into a Telugu Brahmin family. His father name was S. P. Sambamurthy and mother name was Sakunthalamma. His father was a Harikatha artist and also acted in many acts.
He got interest in music at the early age. He studied musical notations and learned music. He joined in JNTU College of Engineering Anantapur to become an engineer and get a government job to fulfil his father’s ambition.
While studying S.P. Bala Subrahmanyam engineering, he continued to pursue music and won awards at singing competitions.
He discontinued his studies due to typhoid and joined as an associate member of the Institution of Engineers in Chennai. He won the first prize in music competition for amateur singers that were organized by the Madras based Telugu Cultural Organization. He teamed up with Ilayaraja, Baskar and Gangai Amaran as a troupe and composed a music name called Anirutta.
S. P. Balasubrahmanyam other names was SPB or SP Balu. He was an Indian playback singer, actor, television presenter, music composer, dubbing artist and a film producer.
S.P.B was selected as a best singer in singing competition that was judged by S. P. Kodandapani and Ghantasala. After so many visiting to music composers for seeking opportunities, he got an audition song, that song name was “Nilave Ennidam Nerungathe. This song was contributed by veteran playback singer P. B. Sreenivas. He used to write and give SPB multilingual verses in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, Sanskrit, Malayalam, English and Urdu.
S.P.B wife name was Savithri married in 1969 and had two children, one is Pallavi and another one is S.P.Charan. S.P.B is also a playback singer and a film producer.
S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, was considered S.P.Kodandapani as his guru. Because he was the person who gave him his first singing offer and mentored him in his early career. He remembered about his guru throughout his life and pay some tributes to his guru.
S.P.B named his recording theatre of his guru and also named his film production company after him as Kodandapani Film Circuits. Apart from being a playback singer, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam has won many awards in his career in the fields of music direction, dubbing, acting and production.
He was widely very famous for his singing.
He is one of the greatest Indian singers of all the time around the world. He mostly worked in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi films. He sang in total 16 languages.
In telugu cinemas, he got 25 Andhra Pradesh State Nandi awards for his work. He got numerous state awards from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. He won 6 Filmfare awards in South.
He has sung more than 40,000 songs in 16 languages and holds the Guinness Book of World Record for the most recorded songs.
He created a record for recording 21 songs in Kannada from 9 am to 9 pm on 8th February in the year of 1981. S. P. Balasubrahmanyam recorded 19 Tamil songs and 16 Hindi songs in a day it was also become one of the best records in his life.
S.P.B. received Andhra Pradesh state “NTR National Award” for his contributions to the Indian cinema. He received the Harivarasanam Award from the Government of Kerala in 2015. He was honored at the 47th International Film Festival of India as an Indian Film Personality of the Year in 2016. S. P. Balasubrahmanyam was a received of the Padma Shri in 2001 & 2011 and Padma Vibhushan in 2021 from the Government of India. S. P. Balasubrahmanyam was died in Chennai due to Carona (Covid-19) on 25th September 2020. On 26 September 2020 he was buried at his farm house with state honors.
