Director Hideaki Anno was a Japanese animator, actor and filmmaker. He was the best known for creating the anime series “Neon Genesis Evangelion” in the year 1995. The “Neon Genesis Evangelion” franchise had a significant influence on the anime television industry.
Hideaki Anno style was defined by his approach, the extensive portrayal, thought and emotions. He often through the unconventional scenes was presenting the mental deconstruction of the characters.
Hideaki Anno was born in 22nd May 1960 at Ube city, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. He was the son of Fumiko Anno (mother) and Takuya Anno (father). He attended Wako Kindergarten, Unoshima Municipal Elementary School, Fujiyama Municipal Junior High School, and Yamaguchi Prefectural Ube High School. At school, he was known for his interest in art and made short films for Japanese Cultural Festivals.
Hideaki Anno was an agnostic and had also stated that he was found the Japanese spiritualism to be the closest to his personal beliefs. He began his career while attending Osaka University of Arts. He worked as an animator for the anime series “The Super Dimension Fortress Macross” from 1982 to 1983.
Director Hideaki was involved in producing the Daicon III and IV Opening Animations with his fellow students. He was always busy with making self-financed films. Because of this habit, he had stopped paying his tuition that was eventually getting expelled from the Osaka University of Arts.
Director Hideaki Anno was a vegetarian.
Hideaki Anno was not gained proper recognition until the release of his work with the director “Hayao Miyazaki” in the year 1984 film “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind”.
Once upon a time, the film production studio was running short on animators. In that time, they posted an ad in the famous Japanese animation magazine “Animage” like we need more animators like that.
Hideaki Anno was in his early twenties when he read the ad. In that time, he went to the film studio where he met director “Hayao Miyazaki”. He showed Miyazaki some of his drawings.
Director Miyazaki was impressed with Anno’s ability. He hired Anno to draw some of the most complicated scenes near the end of the movie. Director “Hayao Miyazaki” valued Anno’s work highly.
After that, Hideaki Anno had become one of the co-founders of the Gainax in the year 1984 December. He had worked as a animation director for their first feature length film name “Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise” in the year 1987.
After that, Hideaki Anno was ultimately became a Gainax’s premiere anime director. He also got the leading majority of the studio’s projects like “Gunbuster” in the year 1988 and “Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water” from 1990 to 1991.
Hideaki Anno fell into a four-year depression after working on “Nadia”.
Nadia was a series handed down to him from NHK, based on an original concept by Hayao Miyazaki. In this time, He was taken little creative control over the series.
