The Labrador retriever dog is also called as Labrador. It is originated from British and it is retriever gun dog breed. It is developed as the fishing dogs that are imported from the colony of Newfoundland. After, that region named as the colony Labrador. It is the common pet dog in many countries mainly in the Western world.
The 10th Earl of Home and his nephews Lord John Scott and the 5th Duke of Buccleuch have been imported to parents of the breed from the Newfoundland to the Europe to use them as gun dogs. The 2nd Earl of Malmesbury was the person who bred the Labrador retriever dogs for their expertise in water fowling.
The 3rd Earl of Malmesbury, the 6th Duke of Buccleuch and the 12th Earl of Home were collaborated to develop and to establish the Labrador retriever breed during the 1880’s. The Labrador retriever’s coat will be short and dense, but not wiry. The coat is water resistant so the dog won’t get cold in winter. It has a dry oily coat. The head will be broad with slightly noticeable eyebrows.
The Labrador retriever male dog height is 56 cm to 57 cm and the female dog’s height is 54 cm to 56 cm.
The weight of the Labrador retriever male dog is 29 kg to 36 kg and the female dog weight is 25 kg to 32 kg. The Labrador retriever life span is 10 years to 12 years.

The 2nd coat B locus determines whether eumelanin is produced. If pheumelanin pigment is produced, the coat is yellow due to the genotype at the B locus. A 2011 study found that 13 of 245 Labradors studied were heterozygous for M264V. This is the mutation responsible for the melanistic mask and the other is homozygous.
