Russia is the largest country in the world according to its area. It occupies 1/10 of land in earth. It has 11 time zones across two continents Europe and Asia. Russia has the rich history with several dozen ethnic groups. Russia has 100,000 rivers some are longest and most powerful in the world. They have the largest number of time zones in the world

Russia has 11 time zones on the mainland. Kaliningrad is the closest time zone to Greenwich Mean Time. Kamchatka is the farthest time zone. New York time zone according to GMT -5. In 2014 Russia maintained a much wider time zone system in 19th century, with time zones from GMT +01:10 to GMT +15:10.

Russia began to use Moscow Mean Time (MMT) in 1880. That is the system of time two hours ahead of UTC. Later Russia used Julian calendar of 13 days behind the rest of Europe. Russia began using the Gregorian calendar in 1918 it is more consistent with European time. This time difference leads to the modulation of time zones in Russia.
