Popular Island Bora Bora was an island group in Leeward Islands. The Leewarde Islands was made up of the western part of the Society Islands of the French Polynesia. It was an overseas collectivity of the French Republic in Pacific Ocean. In Tahitian language Bora Bora Island is called as Pora Pora Island.

Bora Bora total land area was of 30.55 km2 that was 12 sq mi. The main Island was located about 230 kilometers northwest of the Papeete that was surrounded by a lagoon and a brief reef.

The centre of Island remains of an extinct volcano. It was rising of the two peaks that are Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu. The highest point is 727 meters (2,385 feet) at Bora Bora Island.

The economy of the Bora Bora Island is almost entirely dependent on tourism. The several resorts were been built on the motu that was surrounding by the lagoon. Motu was a Tahitian word that means “small islands”.

In Bora Bora in the year 1961 Hotel Bora Bora was opened. After 9 years the first floating over water bungalows were built in the lake. The over water bungalows were the standard feature of the most Bora Bora resorts now.

These bungalows are very expensive and luxurious. But these bungalows are used as cheap basic accommodation for the tourists who come there. Mostly the tourist destinations were the sea oriented.

There are so many tourist attractions on the land like World War II cannons etc. The Air Tahiti used to operates 5 to 6 flights daily between Tahiti and the Bora Bora Airport, these airport is also known as Motu Mute airport. Also occasionally flights are come from other islands.

There were no public transports on the island so mostly were will be rental cars and the bicycles that were recommended this were the transport there. There small and two-seater buggies are there in Vaitape town for hire. Motorboats can also be hired there to explore the lagoon.

Vaitape city was a large city on the west side of the Island. The city was also become as a best place for tourism.

Scuba diving and Snorkeling are the Bora Bora’s lagoons were the popular activities. Here many types of sharks live around these waters.

Some dive operators on the island offer manta ray dives and shark feeding dives. These are not considered dangerous to the shark species living in the lagoon of the islands and to people.

To the existing Islands of the Bora Bora artificial Island in Motu Marfo that has been added to the northeastern corner of the lagoon that was one of the many resorts.

The main attraction of the Bora Bora Island was the lagoon with underwater world. People can explore by glass bottom boat, snorkeling and by diving the reef with the 1000 of colorful coral fish.

There are barracudas and sharks that you can feed during the guided diving excursions in the deep lagoon. This lagoon area was most attraction area for Stingray Strait divers.

There were several species of stingrays were found in the large schools. These were including the numerous manta rays and the leopard rays.

The interior of the island is good for exploring in vehicles like safari jeep. The natural beauty of the island was the best to explore on foot. Several hikes were done from the Vaitape city, but it is best to rely on the tourist guide to keep your bearings. Mostly beaches and also numerous hotels were located in two large bays between the Pointe Paopao and the Pointe Matira. It was located at the southwest of the Island.
